Live-on-site home cooking

Our cooks come to your home and prepare the meal fresh, in front of the family — the way ritual food was always meant to be made.

Your kitchen, our cooks, your family's customs

For many families, food for a masikam or taddinam should be cooked at home — where the ritual takes place and where the elders can see it being made.

With live-on-site cooking, an experienced cook from Vigneshwara Caterers arrives at your house before the ritual begins, cooks the full menu in madi, keeps the naivedyam ready for the purohit and serves the bhoktas and guests on the leaf. When the meal is over, we clean up and leave.

You get the comfort of home-cooked food and the ease of a caterer — without having to cook, shop or wash a single vessel on a day that is already heavy.

What happens on the day

Everything is planned around the muhurtham your purohit gives you, so the food is ready the moment the ritual needs it.

Timings below are typical for a masikam or taddinam. Larger menus start earlier — we will tell you exactly when to expect us.
  1. A day or two before

    Menu and timing confirmed

We call to confirm the menu, the number of bhoktas and guests, your address and the muhurtham.

  2. Early morning

    Fresh groceries bought

Vegetables and provisions for your menu are bought fresh that morning — nothing is prepared in advance.

  3. About 3 hours before the muhurtham

    Our cook arrives in madi

We set up in your kitchen or a space you choose, keep ritual vessels separate and begin cooking.

  4. Before the ritual begins

    Naivedyam ready

The items the purohit needs are prepared first and kept untouched, exactly as the ritual requires.

  5. After the ritual

    Bhoktas and guests served

We serve on banana leaves, in the traditional order, and keep refilling until everyone has eaten.

  6. When the meal is over

    Kitchen cleaned, we leave

Our vessels are washed and packed, the cooking area is cleared and your home is left as we found it.

Whichever suits your home. For smaller numbers we usually cook in your kitchen. For larger gatherings we can set up in a balcony, backyard, cellar or terrace with our own stove and vessels.

It depends on the menu and the number of guests. A masikam for a few bhoktas needs one experienced cook; a 13th day meal for 40 people usually needs a cook, a helper and serving staff. We confirm this when we fix the menu.

Yes. For ritual meals our cooks come in madi, keep vessels separate and prepare the naivedyam first. If your family follows any additional customs, tell us and we will follow them.

Of course. Many families have a particular way of making pulusu, pachadi or payasam for their elders. Share it with us, and we will cook it that way.

We can bring all groceries and vegetables for the agreed menu, or cook with provisions you have already bought for the ritual. Many families prefer the first so there is nothing to arrange.

Yes. We wash our vessels, clear the cooking area and take our equipment back, so your kitchen is left the way we found it.
